Health benefits of Coconut Oil for Eczema Sufferers

Coconut oil makes you look good and feel good! It can be used both internally and externally. Coconut Oil has so many health benefits. It can be especially beneficial for eczema and dermatitis sufferers.

External Uses of Coconut oil -Skin Moisture

As the Natural health motto says " if you can’t eat it don’t put it on your skin." Our skin is our largest organ of assimilation and elimination. It therefore literally drinks whatever it comes into contact with.  As any dermatologist will explain, it is so important for eczema sufferers to keep their skin moisturised. By keeping an effective skin moisturising regime, you will maintain the skin barrier so unwanted allergens can't penetrate the skin. Most dermatologists and doctors will insist on using Sorbolene cream to keep the skin barrier protected. I'm sure they mean well, however have you ever looked at some of the ingredients of Sorbolene??

Sorbolene ingredients include...  ( the following is taken from The Chemical maze)

Mineral Oil - (petroleum derivative.) Potential Effects: It can inhibit proper functioning of the skin, dry skin, kidney and neurotoxicity when untreated or medley treated

Triethanolamine- (made from ethylene oxide and ammonia) Potential Effects: Allergic contact dermatitis, skin irritation,

Imidzaolidinyl urea, - Potential Effects: Contact dermatitis. May release formaldehyde

Methyl paraben, - Potential Effects: May cause allergic reactions

Tetrasodium EDTA / Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid - Potential Effects: Adverse effects can include asthma, skin and mucous membrane irritations, kidney damage

Wow! - not only are some of them difficult to pronounce, would you still put them on your skin?
Going back to the natural health motto " if you can’t eat it don’t put it on your skin."
Would you eat the above ingredients? Why would you put them on YOUR or YOUR CHILD's skin?

I'm not trying to scare you, nor am I trying to discredit dermatologists or doctors. I do believe, however, that YOU are responsible for YOUR own health.  I'm compelled to pass on knowledge I've learnt on my journey so that YOU can make an informed decision that is right for you and your family.

There are many alternatives to Sorbolene Cream. As we know with eczema what works for someone doesn't work for another. Similarly, what works at one time may not work at another time and Vice Versa. That's what makes solving the eczema puzzle so frustrating. As one alternative, I know many people are having great results for managing their eczema with coconut Oil.

Beauty Elixir – Excellent as a Skin and Hair Moisturiser
Coconut oil nourishes, moisturizes and protects your hair and skin by replenishing the body’s natural oils  (Sebum). Coconut oil has been used as a skin moisturizer for thousands of years. Ideal for dry, rough and wrinkled skin.

Its high content of Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA’s) makes it easily absorbed by the skin. (Yes, you CAN eat it!)  Its antiseptic elements keep the skin young and healthy and relatively free from infections.
Many of us are exposed to external (and internal) environmental toxins and bacteria daily. Our skin naturally produces an oil called Sebum, which contains MCFA’s protecting us from unwanted toxins. Unfortunately when we wash our skin with soaps and detergents we also wash away this protective layer of oil. Our skin barrier is compromised, such as in those of us with dry skin or eczema. Coconut oil when used as body oil replenishes the natural MCFA’s into our skin and creates the protective layer we need.
Coconut oil as a skin moisturiser smells fantastic and provides a beautiful radiance to the skin. Also makes a great bath oil.

Internal Uses of Coconut Oil- While keeping skin moisturised is important for eczema management, it will rarely be enough. The causes of eczema run far deeper than our skin. Our skin is a reflection of what's going on inside the body. I'm a big believer that if you treat the internal inflammation and heal the gut, the eczema will disappear. Coconut Oil can help with that also.

Supports Immune Function by Killing Disease Causing Bacteria, Fungi and Viruses - The MCFAs in coconut oil offer antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Oil Pulling is a Simple and Effective Way to Detox Your Body  - An ancient Ayurvedic health tradition which involves using the oil as a mouth wash and spitting it out. The fat enzymes in the oil literally pull toxins, pus and bacteria from the body. It also whitens the teeth.

For Oil Pulling: Adults take 2- 4 tablespoons daily and children take 2 teaspoons every morning.
When first taking Virgin Coconut Oil start with 1 tbsp. with each meal. Some people experience loose motions for a few days (this may be a sign of intestinal fungal infection or candidiasis as it is being destroyed). (Candidiasis can cause eczema. ) For those with a sensitive taste or stomach it may be helpful to mix with tea, juice, yoghurt or add to some food such as oats, nuts and seeds.
Virgin Coconut Oil is both safe and recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
